The Weekly Loan Report: Ogundega returns to Sutton, and Kerbey’s Hendon move into the top half of the table

Keeping U’s fans up to date with our loan players in action over the weekend

A frustrating loan spell at Bognor Regis Town FC sees Tobi Ogundega return to Sutton, while a superb 4-2 win for Matt Kerbey’s Hendon at Tiverton Town moves the Greens into the top half of the table.

After just three games for the club, Tobi Ogundega has left Bognor Regis Town FC and returned to Sutton. The young defender made two appearances during his time at the Rocks, starting both games in the Isthmian League against Enfield and Cheshunt, respectively. His debut in the 2-2 draw away at Enfield Town saw him provide a spirited performance before being subbed off 67 minutes into the game. However, a poor display by the Bognor defence in the 3-1 loss to Cheshunt led Manager Robbie Blake to labelling their defending as “shambolic” in his post-match interview. Tobi featured for 55 minutes before he was subbed off, for what would be his last match for the seaside town. Despite this, the experience of playing in an incredibly competitive league such as the Isthmian Premier Division will be invaluable for Ogundega going forward in his career.

Meanwhile, Matt Kerbey’s Hendon were finally able to shake their drawing curse, following an emphatic 4-2 victory away in Devon against Tiverton Town in the Southern Premier Division. The win moves the Greens into the top half of the table, with them on 12 points in 11th place. Once again, the 21-year-old goalkeeper was solid between the sticks, with the highlight of his game being a great recovery save just before half-time. There was nothing Kerbey could do about the Tiverton goals, with the first one an own goal off a failed clearance. Overall, it’s another positive performance for Matt Kerbey, and he continues to start every game for the Dons since arriving at the club.

Fellow Academy graduate Oliver Khinda made his sixth appearance for Chertsey Town FC over the weekend in their 4-2 loss to Hythe Town, which saw them exit out of the Second Qualifying Round of the Isuzu Trophy. Khinda was subbed on after 56 minutes, with the Curfews 4-0 down, late goals in the 81st and 90th minutes proved nothing but a consolation for Chertsey as Hythe progressed into the Third Round. The 18-year-old remains a useful option for the Curfews off the bench; however, Khinda, is making a strong case to be a permanent fixture in the starting eleven.

To conclude, Jack Taylor was not in action for Burgess Hill this weekend, given that the side were knocked out of the Qualifying Rounds for the Isuzu Trophy by Hythe Town in early September. Jack Taylor and Burgess Hill return next weekend on September 30th against Merstham in the league; currently, the club sits 12th with 4 points.
