Experience

Carshalton Athletic

As 1st Team Media Officer at step three non-league football club Carshalton Athletic, my role involves producing match previews and reports for the men's and women's first teams alongside the academy. As well as that, I am responsible for the pre-match build-up and in-game commentary on Twitter, while also being the interviewer in the post-match debriefs with the manager and star player.

Having only been in the role since July, Chairman Paul Dipre tasked Linval Bartley (club photographer) and I with building a relatively non-existent CAFC media department from the ground up. Embarking on the exciting project has developed my multi-media skills, particularly creating social media content and interviewing.

VAVEL

In April 2024, I joined the Bundesliga office at sports website VAVEL. Since then, I have been producing multiple pieces of content a week, these include match previews, reports, and long-form features. So far, I have discovered a real passion and love for German football, constantly looking to immerse myself in it as well as add to my ever-growing knowledge. They say having a niche in journalism is crucial and I believe I have found mine. In the near future, I hope to travel to Germany and attend press conferences along with games using my VAVEL accreditation.

During the Euros, I covered Group A, which included Germany, for VAVEL, given my journalistic Bundesliga background, and enjoyed it. The main takeaway was that helping out with coverage enabled me to gain access to the UEFA media channel, which I successfully applied for, and used to publish several quote pieces from virtual press conferences, a vital part of sports journalism.

For VAVEL, the Paris Olympic Games quickly followed and presented a good opportunity to delve into and explore niche sports such as Diving and Swimming.

Ahead of the new Premier League season, the senior Editors decided to reward my endeavours over the past few months with the Editorship of Fulham and Brentford. My role entails distributing content each week, editing articles produced by my group of writers, and attending press conferences in West London. It has been invaluable in gaining the necessary leadership skills I will need for the industry.

The Cricketer Magazine

Last summer, I completed a two-week internship with The Cricketer Magazine, the world’s number one cricket magazine. I produced digital content, such as match previews, long-form features, and news lines, for the website and the app. During my internship, I covered The Hundred, the County Championship, and The Ashes. Crafting three to four detail-orientated pieces a day for The Cricketer was an invaluable experience. I developed strong writing and research skills, and at the same time, I learned a lot from Digital Editor’s Sam Morshead and Nick Friend. I have secured a place for January and next summer.

Sutton United FC

Since August, I have been writing the match reports for Sky Bet League Two football club, Sutton United FC. My match reports are published on the Sutton website after every game by Press Secretary Tony Dolbear. Working in the press area and collaborating with journalists from a variety of media outlets has helped me hone my craft of journalism. Tony and I are planning to launch a Loan Watch section on the website in the near future, which will be covered by me.

The Eagles Beak

In October, I joined The Eagles Beak, the largest independent Crystal Palace Football Club fan site on the internet. So far, I have had two articles published on the website by the editor, Jay. I really enjoy writing for The Eagles Beak. I have a lot of creative control, so it’s an opportunity to express my creativity.
